In 2024–25, NSBE's momentum was undeniable. Our members — spanning middle school innovators, collegiate scholars, seasoned professionals and devoted lifetime members — continued to power a movement aimed squarely at ending the underrepresentation of Black Engineers in the United States. Their passion for NSBE's mission fueled another year of remarkable growth and engagement.
NSBE closed the fiscal year with 25,982 members, a 15% increase over 2023–24 and an extraordinary 85% surge since FY21–22. Collegiate membership soared to more than 16,000, a year-to-year growth of nearly 16%, reflecting students' hunger for academic support, leadership development and a community that lifts as it climbs. Professional membership gains were even greater, as the number increased by 25% to nearly 5,500, as more engineers sought opportunities to give back, mentor and stay plugged into a thriving STEM ecosystem. Our dedicated lifetime membership also grew significantly, demonstrating the long-term loyalty and pride the NSBE experience inspires.
This year also laid the groundwork for a new era of member engagement. NSBE piloted Monthly Regional Data Reports to help our regions respond quickly to trends and needs on the ground. We advanced a personalized, data-informed Membership Engagement Strategy, including a "choose-your-own-path" journey set to launch in FY26. New 30–60–90-day onboarding checkpoints will soon ensure that new members are welcomed, supported and connected from day one. And our Data Integrity Initiative is already improving the accuracy of our member records, targeting a 25% reduction in duplicated or misaligned entries. A New Member Toolkit for the Professionals provided its target readership with a comprehensive introduction to the organization and NSBE as a whole.
For prospective and current members alike, NSBE continues to deliver clear value: immediate access to a vibrant STEM community; proven academic support producing an average collegiate GPA above 3.0; enhanced communication systems; and a deepening sense of belonging, bolstered especially by expanded programming for lifetime members.
In 2024–25, NSBE's membership didn't just grow in number—it grew in strength, purpose and unity, positioning the Society for even greater impact in the years ahead.

Media Highlights
Media attention to NSBE's achievements peaked in early spring 2025, with the culmination of our yearlong 50th anniversary celebration, NSBE Gold. Topics found worthy of national news reports included, among others, the run-up to the Society's 51st Annual Convention, in Chicago; the appointment of NSBE CEO Janeen Uzzell to the National Academy of Engineering; NSBE's rich legacy of leadership development and our acknowledgment of STEM excellence among youth; and our new AI training program presented in partnership with Microsoft.

NSBE to Celebrate 50th Anniversary With Chicago Convention
"It's not a coincidence that NSBE's 50th anniversary convention will be held in Chicago. It's the same city where NSBE was founded and the same place the organization held its first-ever conference in 1976. That event brought in just 127 students.... Now, the student-led organization will be welcoming thousands of members."
